The New River (the one in Eastern North Carolina) is completely contained in Onslow county.
The river is generally paddle friendly from Rhoadestown Road down to the Intra Coastal Waterway. Above Rhoadestown Road, the river may be obstructed by blow-downs, and could be hazardous to boaters.
There are several public access points for paddlers. There is one at the Rhoadestown Road bridge and there are several in and around Jacksonville.
